Andrea Holden Race
|
On November 29 2008 Cape Cod Tech Students helped raise funds for Dream Day on Cape Cod by volunteering for, running in, and walking in the Andrea Holden Race.
The efforts of all volunteers raised over 16K for the Andrea Holden fund. A portion of those funds will be donated to Dream Day on Cape Cod, The Baby Center and several scholarships for Dennis – Yarmouth and Cape Cod Tech students. The Andrea Holden Board of Directors was kind enough to include Cape Cod Tech in their scholarship donations and will be awarding two scholarships this year to Cape Cod Tech students along with the four they already give the DY students. Several weeks earlier Executive Director of Dream Day on Cape Cod, Kathleen Giorgio, came in to speak to the National Technical Honor Society about Dream Day on Cape Cod, and let the students know about volunteer opportunities at the camp during the summer months. Dream Day on Cape Cod is a non-profit organization with a mission of "bringing a ray of sunshine into the lives of seriously ill children and their families". It was born in the dreams of a man who, while struggling with cancer himself, helped children facing life-threatening illnesses by giving them a respite from the world of hospitals and treatments where they could enjoy the peace and tranquility of nature. Tim Falvey originally founded "Dream Day on the Sound" in Connecticut and before he died in May 1993, he had hoped there would be other Dream Days. |
