Automotive Technology is a comprehensive NATEF master certified secondary program that prepares graduates for entry level placement in the automotive industry or any one of many manufacturer- sponsored two-year college programs. Instruction takes place in a state-of-the-art, fully operational facility open to the public. The learning experience includes working hands-on with the public’s vehicles in the students’ junior and senior years. VIDEO
Theory instruction makes use of trade specific math texts and workbooks, and lessons and tasks are interwoven with math, reading and science. Students use an AYES (Automotive Youth Educational Systems) computer lab delivering the latest curriculum in all aspects of industry and education directly from automobile manufacturers. This is a dynamic partnership among vehicle manufacturers, automobile dealers and selected high schools.
The shop integrates state-of-the-art equipment simulating an up-to-date diagnostic / repair shop. Students learn to use computerized diagnostic scan tools, four wheel computer alignment equipment, environmentally safe R134A refrigerant recovery systems and electronic wheel balancing tools. Because the shop is open to the public, students also focus on customer service and communications skills. Whether they immediately seek employment in this industry or seek further education, the Auto Tech graduate is well-prepared for the next step in their career development.
