HARWICH — Dom Richmond and Jake Roderick combined for 51 points as the host Crusaders won for the second straight day in the nightcap of the Cape and Islands Classic.
Richmond scored most of his 27 points in the interior for Cape Tech (3-1), and Roderick had a pair of 3-pointers, finishing with 24 points.
Freshman Steven Thomas led Chatham (0-5) with 27 points. Billy Watts scored 14 and Bryan Connell added 12.
The Blue Devils went toe-to-toe with Cape Tech in the first eight minutes, grabbing a 21-20 lead after the first quarter. The difference in the game was the second quarter, as the Crusaders shut down the Chatham offense and built a 39-30 halftime lead.
The Blue Devils cut the deficit to 51-45 on a Watts offensive rebound with just over a minute remaining in the third quarter, but Richmond nailed a back-breaking '3' at the buzzer to give Cape Tech a 57-47 lead.
The Crusaders opened the fourth on a 9-2 run before Thomas gave the hosts a scare by scoring 10 fourth-quarter points. "We played a lot better yesterday (Thursday)" said Cape Tech coach Brent Warren. "They pulled us out of our game which I didn't want to have happen."
Casey Miller scored 10 points for the Crusaders.
