CCT Website Introduces Videos

Published on Thursday, February 14, 2008

When Cape Tech school officials launched a new website last year, they knew there would be more in store. They wanted an updated look, better information, and a tool to communicate with the local community. Part of the vision was video.

It started when then newly appointed principal Len Phelan convened a puplic relations committee in October of 2007. The group quickly decided that the school's promotional video needed to be updated. Phelan enlisted recent retiree Burt Fisher and recent graduate Alexandra Olsen. The two spent months producing a polished and entertaining 20 minute video that is now used for road shows by the guidance department and for promotional events.

Using that footage Olsen recently began producing shorts for the website. The school created a YouTube page featuring Olsen's work and began embedding the videos in the Cape Tech website. "We're not done yet," said webmaster Jonathan Roberts, explaining that soon each technical shop would have its own mini video. "We'll always be adding more cool stuff to our website."

When the school's Dean of Students, Mr. T, was asked to desribe the new videos he had just two words: "They rock."
