Renewable Energy

Wind Power

We are pleased to announce a new course in partnership with the Cape Cod Community College. The course will take place at our state-of-the-art Renewable Energy Center (REC) which is part of Cape Cod Tech’s REEAP (Renewable Energy Education and Awareness Program). REC provides experiences with visual working systems related to renewable energy education and functions as a hands-on classroom for work force training and continuing education.

Wind Power                               WET 078-65
Tuesdays, 10/30/12-11/13/12      6:30 pm-9pm    fee: $95
Instructor:  Tom Sherry
This course introduces students to the fundamentals of installing and maintaining a wind driven electrical generating system. Through lectures, handouts, videos, and observation of an actual working energy systems. Participants will learn how electricity is produced, how to sort through misleading information, and how to determine if a wind turbine is right for your home or business. Participants will also become familiar with wind power as a supplement to Solar Energy and finally how wind turbines survive in high winds.

This course introduces students to the fundamentals of photovoltaic (PV) system installation and maintenance procedures. Through lectures, videos, and observation of a working system the student will learn: how electricity is produced, site analysis; is Solar energy right for me?, the factors that reduce/enhance PV systems performance. Students will also learn how to identify safety hazards associated with the installation, operation and maintenance of PV systems and how to identify key electrical components (inverter, charge controller, Combiner, ground fault protection, battery, generator).
