  • Cape Cod Tech Awarded Two-Year HVAC Grant for Adult Education Program

Posted by Carol Connolly on 10/7/2019

Cape Cod Regional Technical High School, one of Cape Cod’s leading vocational schools for students seeking trade education to supplement the standard academic curriculum, has been awarded a two-year grant for Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) training in its Adult Education program. This project is funded by a Senator Kenneth J. Donnelly Workforce Success Grant (Workforce Competitiveness Trust Fund FY’19 Appropriation) through the Massachusetts Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development and is administered by the Commonwealth Corporation. These funds will assist unemployed or underemployed people in filling in-demand regional jobs and helping entry-level workers advance at their current employer.

Cape Cod Tech’s Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning training program will provide entry-level HVAC training for adults free of cost. Participants will receive 80 hours of training to include theory, hands-on practice, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 10-hour construction safety and health training, and EPA certification. Additionally, students will also have the opportunity to shadow an employee at an area HVAC company, and will participate in ten hours of career training with the MassHire Cape and Islands Career Center. Upon completion of the program, participants will receive a certificate of completion from Cape Cod Tech, as well as an opportunity to interview for any open positions with our employer partners: Robies Heating and Cooling, Rusty’s Inc., Seaside Gas Service, and W. Vernon Whiteley, Inc.

Partners consist of Cape Cod Tech, Superintendent Robert Sanborn, the MassHire Cape and Islands Workforce Development Board, the four employer partners mentioned above, the MassHire Cape and Islands Career Center, and the Housing Assistance Corporation of Cape Cod. MassHire Cape and Islands will provide program participants with career training including resume building, successful interviewing, and job maturity skills. The employer partners will share their expertise and provide an opportunity for participants to shadow a current employee to allow them “a day in the life” experience in the HVAC industry. The Housing Assistance Corporation of Cape Cod will identify and recruit program participants.

The first cohort will begin early in 2020 and information will be available on Cape Cod Tech’s website.
